Are Black Christian Singles sexually promiscuous?
Why does it seem like so many black singles in church struggle when it comes to the area of sex and sexual purity? I have been a part of black churches literally all my life and in those years I have seen so much.
I have seen Christian single ladies that I admired and respected, ladies that I even used to look up to in terms of how strong their relationship was with God, black Christian single ladies that served in the church, lead praise and worship, lead prayer meetings, lead bible study, Christian ladies that lead us in all sorts of spiritual activities, ladies that I thought were really close to God, ladies that preached purity and holiness, ladies that I assumed were living right because they were telling everybody else to live right, and those same ladies were the same ones that were getting pregnant outside of wedlock, meaning that they were having sex outside of marriage while they were preaching holiness to the rest of us.
I have also seen black Christian single men who hold respected positions in the church, men that claim to be prayer warriors, men that were very active in ministry, some of them were even youth leaders in the church, yet these same men were the ones getting ladies pregnant both in and outside the church and some of them that were youth leaders were sleeping with some of the young ladies they were meant to be leading in the way of the lord.
I know one particular black Christian single guy who is a youth leader in his church and yet he makes it open and clear that he is sexually promiscuous, he is open about having sex outside of marriage, he is open about sleeping with multiple girls at the same time, some of which are the girls in the youth church of which he is the youth leader, and he doesn't believe that having sex outside of marriage is wrong. The Pastor of the church knows about everything he is up to and yet they still allow him to hold the position of youth leader.
All this leads me to ask the question, are black Christian singles promiscuous? I pose this question specifically to the black Christian community because that is the community that I am a part of and exposed to.
Why do so many black Christian singles struggle in this area, why do black singles find it so difficult to obey God in this area.
I ask this question sincerely and not to condemn or judge anybody but to seek better understanding. I understand how tempting it is to want to have sex when you are dating someone, I understand how it becomes more and more difficult to abstain from sexual immorality the closer you get to the person you are dating, but aren't we supposed to resist temptation? Aren't we supposed to live by Gods commands and not our flesh? Isn't that what being a Christian is all about? Isn't that what separates us from the world and makes us different?
Most black Christian singles know that it is wrong to practice sex outside of marriage, yet most are still doing it behind closed doors, so is this just blatant outright disobedience to God or is it a genuine struggle with sexual promiscuity within the black community?
I would love to hear peoples thoughts on this so please leave your comments using the form below. You can use a nickname or user name where it asks you for your name on the form if you want to keep you identity private.
