Is It Right For Christian Women To Dress Sexy And Are They Responsible For Making Guys Lust?

Recently there was a discussion on facebook about whether it was appropriate for Christian women to dress sexy, the discussion came about as a result of the lyrics of a Christian song where this artist (a Christian male) was complaining in the song that he is "fighting temptation, trying to live a godly life but all I see is your booty and cleavage!" which brought about the question is it right for Christian women to dress sexy and are they by dressing sexy causing men to sin.

My wife Faith (and author of beautyliciousyou.com) commented on the discussion and I really like the contribution she made so I decided to post it as an article on this website.

Some guys will lust after you regardless of what you are wearing. Nonetheless the Bible does remind us to make sure that we do not do the things that will cause one of our brothers or sisters to sin!! God is about love, the Christian walk is all about love. To love God and to love our neighbours as ourselves. If you love me, you will look after me and put me first in everything. That is the beauty of selflessness, love is about sacrifice.

Soul winning is at the heart of our faith. There is a standard that we are supposed to adhere to as children of God and that is to reflect the beauty and Holiness of God. Sexiness in public is about advertising your flesh to speak to the flesh of others. The bible says to lust after someone who is not your spouse is a sin: so to purposefully cause your brother to lust after you is you causing them to sin. We are all dear to God's heart, we are precious to Him: so in essence you are making life difficult for one of his little children. Yes, they have a personal responsibility to control themselves but you are not making it any easier for them.

And as God is about love, are we loving our neighbours by causing them to sin? God wants us to look out for each other and care for one another.

My concern is that dressing sexy and wearing revealing clothes that show cleavage lowers our standard. It does not win souls into kingdom, it doesn't advertise God. We should not judge, but we can acknowledge that it is not a proper way for us to dress in the kingdom of God. But my view is that it is with growth, maturity in wisdom and in relationship with God that people naturally realise it. We have to love people through that stage of their lives, I know because I was also once there.

I thought that being and dressing sexy is what is important, that is what makes you significant and wins you points with people. That was because although I thought I was saved, I still had a foot in the world. I was feeding on things of the world, watching the music videos, looking at celebs, the magazines and getting my fashion tips from them subconsciously.

You become who and what you admire, and what you constantly feed on. And the seriousness of the matter is that if you are someone's child you behave like them. So looking like the world means that you are a child of the world and so evangelising for the world than for God.

I would love for people to know that you can dress beautifully and still be covered up. Being attractive does not mean exposing all of your goods and losing your dignity. I really want people to know that and that is genuinely out of love. Women are the most beautiful and powerful creatures Jehovah created, we are Royalty. Royalty covers up but is still admired, attractive and well dressed always!!---
