Should I Date Or Start A Relationship With My Best Friend? I Want To But I'm Scared.

Um, I'm just wondering, what's your opinion on dating your best friend? See, my best friend is a guy (I'm a girl BTW) and he kinda wants to be my Boyfriend, because he has said that he really likes me. Well, I really like him too, but, I want to know your opinion. I'm just a bit concerned because we've been best friends since forever and if something goes wrong, then I don't know what I'll do. But we are both Christians, and we understand and agree about "no sex before marrige" etc, and we have never had a GF/BF before... but I would still like to know your opinion.

A lot of people find themselves in this predicament. The thing is, when you are close friends and even best friends with someone of the opposite sex, it is very common that at some stage one of you will begin to develop feelings for the other. In some cases both the guy and the girl begin to have romantic feelings for eachother and secretly want to have a relationship with their best friend but are afraid to be open about it out of fear of losing their best friend if things don't work out.

The major concern people in this kind of situation have is that if things don't work out will it ruin the great friendship that we have? As a result many are afraid to pursue their feelings out of fear of not wanting to lose their friend. Many will continue to have these secret feelings and desire to be with their best friend, and these feelings will become more and more intense and the more intense it gets the harder it is to continue to pretend that you are cool with being just friends. So should you date your best and pursue a relationship with your best friend?

You know that there will be substance and mutual respect in the relationship. You will already have good communication with eachother, you already know how to support eachother and be there for eachother. I could go on and on about the benefits of dating and starting a relationship with your best friend because not only will you eventually be lovers, you will continue to be friends which is more important than being lovers because when you eventually get married, you will spend more time relating as friends than relating as lovers in the bedroom.

So in my opinion dating or starting a relationship with your best friend is not a bad thing at all, you already have a head start on most people who meet a complete stranger and then have to figure out if this stranger is for real and has good intentions, then they have to spend time getting to know this stranger and build a friendship with them etc, but when you are already best friends you already have a solid foundation to build the relationship on, you won’t have to start from scratch like most people do.

Friendship is one of the most important aspects of any relationship most especially in romantic relationships, so if you already have that then you are miles ahead of everyone else.

After saying all that however, you still have to work at the relationship if you start dating your best friend. It doesn't mean everything will be rosy and problem free in the relationship just because you are best friends, there will still be challenges, in fact you might start to discover things about your best friend that you didn't even know before, things that might annoy you and get on your nerves, but if you are willing to work at it and get through all the hurdles and challenges together then you have the making of a very solid and fruitful relationship.

As long as you both have the right intentions for eachother and as long as you will both be committed to the success of the relationship and are ready to stick together even when things get tough (because they will regardless of how great your friendship and feelings for eachother is) then there is absolutely nothing wrong with dating or starting a relationship with your best friend.
