God Doesn't Have a Problem with Interracial Christian Dating
Recently I received an email from someone asking me about my thoughts on interracial Christian dating, this person wasn’t so sure that God was okay with us dating or marrying people outside of our race, in their opinion interracial dating, interracial relationships and interracial marriages don’t work and their reason for saying that is because they have seen a number of interracial relationships fall apart because of the differences in culture. From my understanding of scripture, there is absolutely nothing wrong with interracial Christian dating or interracial Christian relationships and marriages and from my study of the bible, God doesn’t have a problem with us dating or getting into a relationship with someone from a different race to us. People might have a problem with it because of certain prejudices they hold, but God certainly doesn’t. The only kind of dating or relationship that God does have a problem with is when you date an unbeliever, becoming unequally yoked with an unbeliever. We have to understand that there is no race in the kingdom of God. In the kingdom of God there is no Jew or gentile – that’s what the bible says in Romans 10:12 in other words God see’ all Christians as one race once we become born again and put our faith in Jesus Christ and as such we are allowed to pursue a relationship with any Christian regardless of their race because in Gods eyes he see’ children and people that belong to him, he doesn’t see colour and ethnicity. In fact the term interracial Christian dating or interracial marriage is technically incorrect from a new testament perspective because once you give your life to Christ and become a Christian your race and ethnicity is irrelevant, what’s relevant is your new identity as someone created in the image and likeness of God, who now belongs to the kingdom of God and if you must identify with any race, then identify with the race called “the sons (and daughters) of God” So does God have a problem with interracial Christian dating? Absolutely not. The key thing is to make sure that God is leading you to be with the person and be aware that there will be cultural barriers to be overcome, but in saying that, any cultural tradition that isn’t in line with the word of God should ultimately be discarded, where culture and the bible clash with regards to the relationship the bible must emerge victorious, the word of God has to be the final authority in the relationship not the words of culture or the words of parents. There are examples in the bible of interracial relationships i.e. Boaz married Ruth a Moabite, Joseph’s wife was Egyptian, Moses married an Ethiopian, Samson married a Philistine and that’s just a few examples. Interracial Christian dating isn’t wrong, just make sure you are being led by God and make sure that this person you are with is Gods will for you, also don’t go into the relationship ignorantly, be aware that there will be challenges as a result of clashes in culture and like I said earlier, when clashes in culture occur, let the word of God be your final authority – if you do that your relationship will succeed.
