Marriage and Relationship Advice on How to handle disagreements and conflicts

Marriage and Relationship Advice On Settling Disputes and Conflicts.

First of all, there is no perfect relationship or marriage, all couples experience challenges and from time to time all couples argue, in fact it is normal for couples to disagree and argue, if you don’t experience disagreements in your relationship it may just mean that you are both deceiving each other and are not completely being honest about the things that are hurting you in your marriage or relationship, you may just be sweeping issues under the carpet and harbouring a lot of bitterness, anger and resentment and one day that volcano will erupt.

Disagreements and conflicts in relationships are normal, no matter how much two people love each other, there are bound to be frictions from time to time because you are two completely different people trying to function as one, you will have different views on things and won’t always see eye to eye, plus the fact that men are women are wired differently, men are truly from mars and women from Venus, what a woman might see as a big deal might not even be noticed by a man – this in itself is guaranteed to cause conflicts.

So here is some marriage and relationship advice on how to handle disagreements and conflicts when they do occur because they inevitably will.

1. Wait for the right time to raise the issue. An example of when not to raise the issue is when the two of you are having a romantic night out, that’s not the time to bring up problems, you will end up quarrelling, getting in a bad mood and spoiling the romance of that night. It is also wise to leave some cooling off period before dealing with tense and sensitive issues. If you try to deal with it in the heat of things, it may only make matters worse and you might end up lashing out at each other and saying hurtful things to each other. Be willing to compromise and say “I know this is important and we need to talk about it, but will wait till later to talk about it”

2. Pick the right place to talk about the issue. Get away from the television, computer, mobile phone and other distractions and give each other you undivided attention. You really need to listen to the heart of your spouse not just hear what they are saying, so make sure you are not distracted.

3. Talk about how the situation makes you feel rather than pointing the finger of accusation, for example “I feel we need to spend more time together” instead of “you never have time for me, you are always in from of that stupid computer...” okay you get the idea, let’s be sensitive in how we speak to each other.

4. Keep fights out of the bedroom. The bedroom is a place of unity and intimacy. Don’t deprive your spouse sex just because you are trying to get back at them for something, your bedroom is not a battle field, it should be a place of reconciliation. No sleep back to back!

5. Bring God into the conversation. Pray for wisdom to handle the situation, pray for unity in your home and relationship, and pray that the enemy will not find a foothold in your marriage to quench the love you both have for each other.

If you follow these marriage and relationship advice on how to handle disagreements you will be better equipped to handle conflicts when they arise in your relationship.
